A former U.S. Marine died on Veteran's Day.

Merriam police spokesman Capt. Michael Daniels told KCTV5 that 69-year-old Robert Brewer was found dead in his rented room. Brewer, who does not have any surviving family members, also had not made any advance funeral plans.

Brewer was an honorably discharged Marine and served his country during the Vietnam era from 1962 thorough 1965. He was a Field Radio Operator and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal.

He was awarded Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Good Conduct Medal for his service during the Vietnam War.

Amos Family Funeral Home of Shawnee is working with Ft. Leavenworth to make sure that Brewer gets a proper military burial. Richard Meister of the funeral home said that graveside services for Brewer will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
