NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

A 28-year-old man was arrested in connection with a shooting inside a New Haven nightclub where one woman was killed and five others were injured.

More than 100 people were inside the Key Club Cabaret when shots rang out inside during the early morning hours of Oct. 26.

When officers arrived, 26-year-old Erica Robinson was found dead.

Police said 19-year-old Amanda John, 29-year-old Jahad Brumsey, 24-year-old Nijia Ward, 34-year-old Albert Dickerson and 25-year-old Ivette Sterling were also injured.

On Tuesday afternoon, Adrian Bennett was arrested at a home in Hartford. He is being held by police and is expected to be arraigned at New Haven Superior Court on Wednesday.

The Key Club Cabaret, which is a popular strip club in the Elm City, was initially closed after the shooting.

Mayor John DeStefano called for more policing of New Haven following the recent shooting. He said the following:

  • Fees be imposed on nightclubs in districts where a heavy police presence is required
  • Police license and train private security at nightclubs
  • City be authorized to approve club licenses
