DPS: Suspicious device that closed roadway was harmless

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A suspicious device that closed a Phoenix-area roadway was a simulated device like a toy, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

DPS initially shut down US 60 and the 303 at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday until an Explosive Ordinance Disposal team could investigate, said DPS spokesman Raul Garcia.

The device was originally reported as a grenade about six feet off the roadway.

After investigating, DPS officials said it was harmless.

The roadway was reopened.
