PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A suspicious fire destroyed a vacant two-story house in south Phoenix on Monday night.

A Phoenix Fire Department spokesman said the fire started just before 11:30 p.m. near 50th and Southern Avenues and had fully engulfed the house by the time firefighters arrived.

Firefighters overpowered the flames with "master streams" of water to prevent it from spreading to nearby homes, the spokesman said.

The spokesman said the cause was suspicious, but that investigators were still trying to determine the cause Tuesday morning.

No injuries were reported, and no other structures suffered damage.
