ROCKY HILL, CT (WFSB) -

Several minor crashes have been reported after snow began to fall across many areas of Connecticut on Tuesday morning.

Meteorologist Scot Haney said temperatures started to drop from the upper 40's into the mid and lower 30's across the state, and the rain has changed over to snowfall in many parts of the state.

Snowfall totals are not expected to exceed an inch or two, and in most places will just be a dusting. But Haney warns that with wet roads underneath, a dusting of snow can become very slick to drive on.

The state Department of Transportation has opened its Storm Center, and officials said they are "cautiously monitoring" the weather conditions at this time.

There are about 100 DOT trucks on the state's roads and highways, and officials said bridges will be treated first because they freeze first, then roads will be treated. Officials said the roads are still somewhat warm, so they're still just wet.

Commuters are reminded to plan some extra time for their drive, though, and advised to slow down as roads could become slippery.

Haney said the snow should come to an end by 9 a.m. or 10 a.m., and the rest of the day will feature clearing skies. But the cold, northwesterly wind will make for an unpleasant day outside.
