MANCHESTER, CT (WFSB) -

A Berlin man is accused of sexually assaulting women who he met online at various locations throughout Connecticut.

Frank Mete, 55, was arrested Friday by Manchester police on charges that he sexually assaulted multiple women in multiple towns including Manchester, Enfield, Windsor Locks, East Hartford and Hartford.

Police throughout the Greater Hartford Area are investigating if he hit other Connecticut towns and they believe there are more victims.

Mete is accused of trolling the internet for prostitutes, traveling the state to meet them at hotels, then posing as a police officer, and blackmailing them for sex and money in exchange for not being arrested.

Investigators arrested Mete at the Residence Inn in Manchester after the prostitute he was trying to bait went to police. In a matter of hours, officers told Eyewitness News they were able to link Mete to a handful of other cases in various cities and towns. Police said the common thread was Craigslist or a website like it.

Mete is being held on $500,000 for numerous counts including first-degree sexual assault, unlawful restraint, first-degree robbery, impersonating a police officer and sixth-degree larceny.

Eyewitness News went to Mete's home where neighbors said he lived with his wife, however there was no answer.

"They're very private, we sometimes see them walking, relatively friendly and never had suspicions of anything," said Karenne Mackiewicz of West Hartford.

Neighbors said they were "shocked" to learn about the arrest of Mete.

"It's frightening for all of the people here and we're disappointed," said Shelia Martinotti of West Hartford.

Anyone who has additional information is asked to call Manchester police at 860-645-5510.
