Wanted: loving homes for pets desperately needing adoption.
Kansas City's no-kill animal shelter has 550 animals. About 70 dogs and cats were seized from the Forever Friends Animal League after a raid by animal control on the Northland shelter.
The KC Pet Project said the shelter is now at capacity and is offering specials to help find forever homes for larger dogs.
"We are so full that we are asking people to open up hearts and homes and adopt a new family member," said shelter spokeswoman Tori Fugate.
She said every healthy, adoptable dog should have a home.
The shelter is offering a $40 adoption fee on all dogs 40 pounds or more as part of their "Tackle Pet Homelessness" adoption. In addition, anyone interested in adopting a kitten or cat can name their own price.
The specials apply at the main shelter in Kansas City and the adoption center in Zona Rosa.
"Our shelter has an amazing selection of small and large-breed dogs, puppies, cats and kittens all looking for forever families to call their own. Adopting from the KC Pet Project helps us continue our mission of creating a no-kill Kansas City," said Teresa Johnson, the shelter's executive director.
The overflow of animals comes just weeks after the shelter was able to successful adopt out 228 animals.
Fugate said every healthy, adoptable dog should have a home.
