Woman charged with six counts of stealing

Posted: Updated:

An Independence woman is facing six charges of stealing.

Amanda S. Paris, 44, faces six counts of stealing by deceit, a class C felony under Missouri law. Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said Paris is charged with illegally renting a home in Blue Springs.

According to court records, people looking to rent the home got in touch with Paris through an ad on Craigslist. She took their money even though she had previously signed a lease stating she would be the sole renter, and no one else would be allowed to sublease the property.

Baker said Paris collected nearly $10,000 in future rental payments for the home between Aug. 7 and Sept. 8. Victims identified Paris to Blue Springs police as the person receiving the payments.

Authorities said anyone else who might have given payments to Paris should contact Blue Springs Police Sgt. Joe Fanara at 816-228-0153.

Paris is in custody on a $25,000 cash bond.
