United flights move to Terminal C at KCI

Posted: Updated:

All United and Air Canada flights will now depart and arrive out of Terminal C at Kansas City International Airport.

The last United flights left Terminal A Monday night.

A United flight from Houston was the first to land Monday night at the airline's new Terminal C home. The flight arrived into Terminal C so the aircraft could be parked overnight and ready for travelers Tuesday morning.

The change was delayed last month due to computer issues.

Joe McBride, an airport spokesman, said the change will make it easier for passengers in part because airport operations, including parking, will be more streamlined.

U.S. Airways is now the only airline at Terminal A. U.S. Air is expected to move to Terminal C in early 2014. U.S. Air is trying to merge with American Airlines, which before United's move had been the largest airline at Terminal C.

Southwest and Delta airlines are the biggest airlines at Terminal B.

Airport officials and others hope to eventually close Terminals B and C. The hope is to have a single-terminal airport built on the site of Terminal A.

However, that has received pushback from many Kansas City area residents who like the convenience and shorter security lines at the multiple terminal airport.
