KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police are investigating a shooting that happened about 1:50 p.m. Friday.

The shooting was reported in a business at East 35th Street and Prospect Avenue on the city's east side. The area was shut down for about three hours while police investigated. It reopened about 4:30 p.m.

Police said they believe the shooting happened along Prospect, between 35th and 36th streets. Witnesses reported seeing two gunman chasing a man down the street, shooting at him. Officers said they found dozens of shell casings in the street.

Police also reviewed surveillance video from a barber shop at the intersection, and it shows people get into a verbal altercation inside the shop, then go outside where the fight continued.

There was gunfire outside the barber shop and then police believe one of the gunmen went back inside, which is where a black male in his early-to-mid 20s was shot. The victim is listed in critical condition.

Police also believe through eye-witness accounts that there is a second victim. They are checking with area hospitals, but have not been able to locate the second shooting victim.

Authorities said it's fortunate the outcome wasn't worse.

"35th and Prospect is a very busy area, lots of vehicles driving through here, lots of pedestrian traffic. We're very fortunate that more people weren't struck," said Capt. Derek McCollum.

Police are looking for two suspects.
