WNU student awakes to intruder in room

Posted: Updated:

Western New England University says one of its students awoke to a person going through her wallet in her room early Thursday morning.

The female student says she woke up around 2:50 a.m. in her Plymouth Hall dorm with the man inside.

The man allegedly asked the girl if she wanted to have sex and then embraced her. The school says no sexual assault occurred.

The suspect also allegedly stole an iPhone from a student in a neighboring suite before running away.

Police think the suspect got in through the building's front door or an open side door.

University police have notified the Springfield Police Department as they investigate to see if similarly incidents happened off-campus.

The school is also going through security footage for evidence. An alert went out to the school community notifying them of the incident.

The suspect is described as a black male with a small afro-style haircut. They say he was in a hoodie with a white backpack.

No arrests have been made.
