Heavy rains cause problems for morning commute

Posted: Updated:
KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Heavy rains over the past 24 hours have caused problems for the Thursday morning commute.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has closed the left lane of southbound Interstate 35 and the exit to Southwest Trafficway until noon because of water spilling over the roadway.

On the Kansas side, the right lane on westbound I-670 at Mill Street is closed because of plugged drains causing standing water on highway.

KCTV5 meteorologist Gary Amble said a flood watch in effect for most of the area through Thursday. An additional 1 to 3 inches of rain is still possible on top of what we've already seen.

Thursday represents the last day we'll see rain before a string of dry days move into our forecast.
