High school senior sends bold anti-bullying message

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and this one proves it.

Since October is anti-bullying month, Scholars Academy senior Morgan Godfrey is sending a message to bullies and their targets.

Morgan turned traditional senior pictures into a stand against bullying with the help of photographer, Stephanie Necessary.

"Words have a lot of power, and they can choose to use their words in positive ways or negative ways," Necessary said. "I hope that seeing this and kind of getting the visual that words leave scars, if you can see them or not, will help people choose to use their words in positive ways."

"Ugly, stupid, worthless and poodle," are only some of the words other kids used to describe Godfrey.

"A lot of the words have scarred me in a sense, and that's why they were on my body, to represent the emotional scars the words have given me," says Godfrey.

Morgan says she wants to turn negative words into an image with an important message. "The main point of my picture is that so many other people try to throw words at you and call you names to bring you down but at the end of the day you're the only person who can define who you are."

Although she is a student at Scholars Academy, Morgan took these anti-bullying photos as a project outside of school.

Morgan told me she has overcome bullying with the help of her support system. She also uses writing as an outlet to channel positive energy. She hopes to one day write and produce documentaries.

Morgan is including this picture in her college applications.
