TIANJIN, China, Oct. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital (hereinafter referred to as 'TEDA') has been continuously exploring new modes and channels for medical aid ever since its founding. By cooperating with the civil affairs departments of different levels and the charity organizations home and abroad, it has carried out a series of programs, such as 'Tomorrow Plan', 'Love Blesses Children's Hearts', 'The Hope of Loving Heart', Loving 'Heart' Activity, 'Medical Companion Service', 'Companion Assistance Project', 'Macdonald Fund', 'The Gift Of Life', etc, to assist the orphaned and impoverished children with congenital heart disease (CHD) and perform the social responsibilities of the hospital. To date, more than 6,000 children with CHD have been cured through surgeries under those programs, the record of the number of children with CHD aided by a single domestic hospital. The benefited children were aged from one month to 18 years old and covered 12 ethnic groups from 27 provinces, cities and autonomous regions.
Those children were suffering from different categories and levels of CHD, most of which were more serious complex ones. To take good care of them, TEDA has not only allocated the most elite medical staff and the most advanced medical equipments for them, but also offered them clothes, toys, nutritionally balanced meals and 24-hour care. In addition, TEDA has formulated a set of institutionally and procedurally complete processes from admission to discharge and from the establishment of consultation and treatment plans to the arrangement of living details of the children. When blood for clinical use was running low, the director Mr. Liu Xiaocheng personally led the medical staff to get on the blood collection bus and made donations. Apart from CHD, some children were also afflicted with anal atresia, abdominal wall hernia or other serious malformations. To spare the pain in the second surgeries for the children, TEDA specially invited experts from other hospitals to correct their deformities during the cardiac surgeries. To facilitate the re-examinations of the orphaned and impoverished Tibet and Qinghai children with CHD, the medical team led by Director Mr. Liu Xiaocheng travelled more than 5,000 kilometers to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau where they performed visits and the free CHD screening for the local children in 15 counties of this region.
Those programs inspired numerous people from the mid-aged women working in resident committees to the old former Ministers, from the international volunteers to students at school, from compassionate individuals from the business circle to the foreign enterprise employees, etc. People of different ages, occupations, nationalities and faiths all gathered in TEDA to look after the children, play pianos, sing, tell stories and play games with them, turning the wards into loving homes.
The humanitarian spirit of TEDA and the noble selfless dedication of the medical staff are fully embodied in those programs which represent the medical levels and above all, perfectly illustrate the public-welfare orientation and social responsibility of the hospitals. The programs to help the orphaned and impoverished children with CHD has been kept as a long term mechanism in TEDA, and more and more children patients with CHD get new leases of life in TEDA. This is a charity movement no other single hospital in China can rival. In the commending assembly for 'The Tomorrow Plan' held by the department of civil affairs in May of 2007, TEDA was granted the "Special Contribution Award for the Tomorrow Plan".
