Shooting in KCMO leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

Posted: Updated:

A shootout in Kansas City has left one man dead and a second man injured.

Police initially believed that the two were firing shots at each other about 5:30 p.m. Monday at 35th Street and Park Avenue. Now they say they are looking for a shooter after a white vehicle was seen fleeing from the area after the gunshots rang out.

The one man died at the scene. A second man was rushed to the hospital in serious but stable condition after he managed to get to a home and seek help.

One frightened resident described hearing three shots and it sounded like the shooter was on foot. She then heard two more shots and saw one of the men fall.

"I was scared. I had to put my kids in the floor because that's how close it was," said the woman who asked to have her identity concealed. "I knew it was right behind my house. I knew the gunshots were right beyond my house and it scared me because bullets can come through walls, windows."

Residents said they are alarmed and gunshots ring out all too often.
