Father and daughter killed in wreck at 106th and Holmes

Posted: Updated:

A father and daughter were killed in a wreck at 106th Terrace and Holmes Road Thursday evening.

A spokesperson for the accident investigations team said the father, 32-year-old Justin D. Williams, was driving when their vehicle was involved in a crash. He and his 14-year-old daughter, Jazmine J. Harris, were killed instantly.

Jazmine just celebrated her birthday earlier this month.

Witnesses told police the father was speeding for at least five blocks as he drove northbound on Holmes. The initial police report said his vehicle struck a car, went off the road and then crashed into a tree in front of a home near 106th.

Officials said another 13-year-old and a 5-year-old were in the back seat at the time and were taken to the hospital with severe injuries.

"It's going to be tough for people that survive this. It'll be tough for me to fathom what they're going to go through," said Sgt. Bill Mahoney with the Kansas City Police Department accident investigation team.

The driver of the second car suffered minor injuries.

The crash was reported about 5:20 p.m.

The man who owns the property where the car landed said a speeding driver crashed into his home nine years ago and speeding has gotten worse over time, even after the speed limit was reduced from 40 miles an hour to 35.

"We've had folks have accidents along here before, but there's never been any fatalities on our property and that feels kind of sad," Kevin Clark said.

Police have impounded the vehicle and will review it as part of this investigation.
