Latest Obamacare glitch: Inaccurate quotes

Posted: Updated:

As issues continue to plague the rollout of the Affordable Care Act, the federal government's latest attempt to offer quotes to consumers provides inaccurate information. now includes the "see plans now" tab to provide a quick quote. Except it only provides the options of 50 years old or older or 49 years and younger. The ballparks are then based on the city and county where you live and those oversized age groups.

In some states, the ballpark numbers are off by as much as $300. More accurate quotes can be obtained from other sites including one offered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City.

Wayne Powell, chief of staff for Blue Cross, said offering quotes based on just two age groups leads to discrepancies.

"It's a ball park based on if you are 27 years old or 50 years old. It's a big ball park," Powell said. "We have about 22 different plans on our website and those plans range from a basic level of insurance type of plan and a type of plan that covers a wide variety of services."

If you don't believe you will qualify for subsidies, you can sign up off the exchange at and avoid using the federal government's website.
