Apartment residents go several days without running water

Posted: Updated:

Residents of KCK's Rosedale Ridge Apartments have been without water for three days, and they claim management has not been helpful.

On-site management repeatedly refused to speak with KCTV5 on Monday. "You need to leave," one manager told reporter Heather Staggers.

Frustrated residents vented to KCTV5. Unable to flush toilets, the stench is difficult to bear and making some residents ill.

Jasmine Williams says she and her family been without water since Saturday.

"It went out Saturday, and we were just trying to wash dishes and cook," said Williams. "We couldn't cook ‘cause we couldn't wash our meat off."

Williams said she bought six bottles of water for her family, which includes her mother and four children. They're now empty after being used for cleaning, hand washing and helping make her 10-month-old baby's formula.

Her family is becoming ill from the overwhelming smell from the filled up toilets.

And, Williams said the stench in her apartment is hard to bare. She's worried it will make her family sick.

"I have four kids and it keeps piling up and piling up," Williams told KCTV5.

Her mother said all the tenants in the building at 2017 South Mill St., as well as the building next door, are without water, and no one will tell them for how long.

"I think the main problem is just bad plumbing. But, it seems like this happens every other month," resident Kim Dyer said.

KCTV5 contacted the federal Housing Authority to ask about tenants' rights and living conditions, but did not get a call back.

We also called the property owner, Creative Choice Homes, which is based in Florida. They said that 16 cases of bottled water were delivered Monday evening to residents and residents in apartments with overflowing toilets were moved to other units.

However, Jasmin Williams did call us Monday evening to report that within an hour of KCTV5 being kicked off the complex property, bottles of water were delivered to residents, and a short time later, water service was restored.
