KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities said a standoff on the city's south side that began Tuesday morning ended hours later when police found the man dead inside.

Kansas City police were called about 9 a.m. to the 11000 block of Booth Avenue on a domestic assault.

When officers arrived, they contacted the victim, who said the suspect shot a gun near her head after assaulting her.

The officers attempted to make contact with the suspect inside the home, but he refused to communicate with them.

Shortly before 2 p.m., police said they found the man inside the home dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
