WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -
A township trustee says a Washington Township police officer has been allowed to return to work, following an internal investigation of a controversial traffic stop video posted online.
Posted back in September, the viral video showed Officer Eric Hart pointing a taser at a man and woman on the ground. Although it did not capture the entire incident, many felt the officer crossed the line with the amount of force he used. During investigation of the incident, Hart was placed on paid administrative leave.
According to Trustee Ken Kay, an investigation performed by the Lucas County Prosecutor's Office found no wrong doing with the township or the police department.
Those in the neighborhood where it happened are not happy to hear Hart has returned to patrol.
"It's not right. You can't be doing that," said a Raintree Village resident who witnessed the incident. "I'd like to have seen him go to jail."
The resident says she is bothered by what happened and wants to see something done.
"He's supposed to be out here protecting people. [He's] not supposed to be out here hurting people," she said.
Calls to the Washington Township police chief and Lucas County Prosecutor's Office have not been returned yet, but both were off for the holiday.
