North Baltimore Police Chief Allan Baer says the school district is not on lockdown, and that students can still go to school. He says they did a full sweep of all the buildings, grounds and busses and nothing was found. However, police and staff will remain on the lookout for suspicious people and packages.
There will be a police presence Friday, and part-time resource officers will be at the school full-time. They will also monitor school cameras 24/7.
Police are currently trying to determine if the threat made was credible, or if it was a hoax. The letter has been sent to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation to be examined. According to Baer, the school will remain on high alert until the threat is resolved.
All of the extra security helped parents feel more at ease taking their children to school.
"I am a little nervous, I'm not going to lie. I'm getting a little emotional because, you know, you hear a lot of things going off with schools lately," said one concerned parent.
Parents say they appreciate the open lines of communication by school officials about the safety of their children.
"They stay on top of it and they can keep the kids safe and alert as to what they need to do if anything was to happen," said the parent.
Principal Bob Falkenstein says there are security measures in place on a daily basis and students and staff are safe at the school.
"Everybody is safe. We're safe every single day. So we will operate as normal. We will continue to learn. We will continue to work, and our students and staff know that they are being watched for and cared for," said Falkenstein.
There are no plans to cancel any school-related events.
Anyone with more information on the incident is urged to call police.
