KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
Eighty-five local World War II veterans got quite a welcome home Wednesday night at the KCI Airport.
They returned from an Honor Flight to Washington, DC.
At the airport people held flags and posters, welcoming them home and thanking them for their service.
"My dad's whole family was in the service and there are not very many World War II vets left and I just appreciate what they did," said Tina Clark.
"I think it's amazing because these people have done so much for our country and they should be welcomed like this and it's amazing everyone came out to see them," said Abbie Baker, who was welcoming home her great-grandmother.
Baker's family said her great-grandmother was the only female vet on the flight.
Despite the government shutdown, the veterans still got to visit the National World War II Memorial in Washington, DC.
