CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Cincinnati's new police chief was sworn in Monday morning during a formal ceremony at Duke Energy Center.

Jeffrey Blackwell is a 26-year veteran of the Columbus Division of Police and Columbus native. According to the Columbus PD, he's worked in all of the policing sub-divisions within the community.

Since Cincinnati City Manager Milton Dohoney announced the hire earlier this month, Blackwell has been meeting with city council and community members to learn more about the city.

When asked how long he expects to stay in Cincinnati, he says he hopes a minimum of five years.  The new chief will make a salary of $132,000 a year.

June 21 marked the former Cincinnati Police Chief James Craig's last day on the job. Craig left Cincinnati to take the same position in Detroit
