Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick made a trip to Springfield Friday to congratulate staff and students at the Alfred G. Zanetti Montessori Magnet School.
Last week, the school learned they had moved from an underperforming Level 4 school to a Level 1, the highest possible.
Principal Tara Christian Clark was hired in 2010 following several years of low scores on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System, or MCAS. Since then she says her staff and her students have put in a lot of work to achieve their success.
Patrick toured the school and had a chance to speak to some of the students and staff. During a short press conference he credited the Achievement Gap Act passed in 2010 for giving schools the flexibility to come up with creative solutions and new ideas for learning. He said the leadership of the principal and school leaders, along with staff, students and parents were responsible for the complete turnaround of the test scores.
