FLORENCE, AZ (CBS5) -

Pinal County deputies said a Maricopa man is suspected of drinking and using marijuana before he crashed his pickup truck Friday, killing his 6-year-old son.

Sheriff Paul Babeu said manslaughter charges against Jose Espinoza, 25, would be recommended to the Pinal County Attorney's Office after blood tests are returned.

Espinoza was driving a 1991 Toyota truck about 6:15 p.m. Friday when it veered off the roadway just outside of Maricopa, according to a Pinal County sheriff's spokesman.

The truck flipped and rolled, ejecting Espinoza and his son, Isaiah, neither of whom was wearing a seat belt, the spokesman said.

Espinoza was taken to Maricopa Medical Center for treatment and was expected to survive, the spokesman said.

Blood samples from Espinoza were expected to be sent to the Arizona Department of Public Safety for testing, the spokesman said.

Espinoza was arrested Pinal County on Jan. 20, 2011, for possession of marijuana, the spokesman said.
