WILLIAMS, AZ (CBS5) -

As cooler temperatures creep in, some recreation areas on the Tusayan and Williams districts of Kaibab National Forest will be closing down for the winter season.

As soon as Sept. 28, the White Horse and Dogtown Lake campgrounds in the Williams district will be closed to overnight camping, with Kaibab Lake Campground closing Sept. 29. Both Dogtown and Kaibab Lake will continue to have access to day-use areas.

Vehicles will be restricted from entering the gate to Cataract Lake starting Oct. 1, however, hikers will be permitted to enter on foot.

In the Tusayan Ranger District, the last night to camp at Ten-X Campground will be Sept. 30.

Closure of two historic cabins will also take place. Hull Cabin in the Tusayan district will close on Oct. 1. Spring Valley Cabin and bunkhouse will continue to be available for rent year-round through the national reservation system, however, road access will close Dec. 1 or after the first significant snowfall. Foot access will still be available during the winter months.

Recreation information is made available by the Forest Service at www.fs.usda.gov/kaibab.
