A Phoenix man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for trafficking drugs.
Senior U.S. District Judge Roslyn O. Silver sentenced Ralph C. Moreno, 53, on Tuesday along with 10 years of supervised released and a $3,000 fine.
On Sept. 18, a federal jury found Moreno guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and felon in possession of a firearm.
Investigators said in 2010 Moreno sold meth from his Phoenix home to people associated with a prison-based gang, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Arizona. Roman Borquez, of Peoria, was part of the prison gang and conspired with people on the outside to send him illegal drugs. They hid the heroin inside two greeting cards.
Once a search warrant was issued at Moreno's home, officers found two firearms and more than $75,000 in drug money.
At the time of the crimes, Moreno had two prior state felony convictions for drug trafficking.
