BISBEE, AZ (CBS5) -

Three people were in stable condition with non-life-threatening wounds after they were shot in Cochise County early Friday morning.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office said deputies were investigating the circumstances and motive surrounding the shooting.

Deputies received a report of gunfire about 3 a.m. and shortly after, a woman called and told them she had been shot and was driving to the sheriff's substation in Elfrida, according to a Cochise County news release.

Deputies went to the scene and found a 34-year-old woman from Douglas and two Elfrida men, ages 25 and 29, with wounds, according to the release.

The three victims were flown from Valley Union High School to a Tucson hospital for treatment, according to the release.

Sheriff's deputies and U.S. Border Patrol agents from Douglas and Willcox closed Central Highway between Davis and Hopkins roads in order to gather evidence and the closure was expected to remain for some time.

Elfrida is in rural Cochise County in southeast Arizona.

Deputies said several subjects had been contacted and were being interviewed.

Deputies said the shootings were an isolated incident involving several people known to local law enforcement from previous incidents and the case was not being classified as an active shooter case.
