US 60 reopens in Sun City after fatal car-pedestrian crash

Posted: Updated:

Eastbound U.S. Highway 60 in Sun City has reopened after a fatal car-pedestrian accident closed the lanes early Friday morning.

The pedestrian was crossing the three lanes of U.S. 60, also known as Grand Avenue, just west of 99th Avenue about 5 a.m. and was struck by a passing van, said Raul Garcia of the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The pedestrian, who was not identified, was dead at the scene, Garcia said.

Garcia said there was no indication of the van speeding.

The crash affected the early morning rush-hour traffic until about 8:30 a.m., said a spokesman with the Arizona Department of Transportation.

All lanes of eastbound U.S. 60 were closed at 103rd Avenue, and only one lane of westbound U.S. 60 was open at 103rd Avenue until about 8:30 a.m.

No other information was immediately available.
