Iraqi bombing suspect on trial in Arizona for weapons

PHOENIX (AP) -

A federal prosecutor says he will present proof that a man charged with three counts of being a felon in possession of guns and ammunition was the only person who could have owned the weapons.

Abdullatif Ali Aldosary has pleaded not guilty. His federal trial began in Phoenix on Wednesday.

His attorney told jurors in opening statements to be skeptical of the government's case.

Separately, Aldosary faces multiple state counts, including 14 attempted first-degree murder charges, arson and use of explosives. Authorities say he detonated a homemade explosive device on Nov. 30 outside a Social Security Administration building in Casa Grande.

The firearms charges stem from evidence collected during searches of his home after the explosive was detonated, though a judge ruled jurors in his federal trial will not be informed of the bombing.
