KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A lot of people use Facebook to post pictures and stay in touch with old friends, but a metro family is using it to reunite with relatives they haven't seen in more than four decades.

It's a flight that Carol Winscott and Donna Tolen had been waiting for 45 years.

"I'm just overwhelmed with gratitude. I always wanted a family. When I was at Noyes Home I kept thinking, ‘There's got to be family out there. There's got to be something.' Thanksgiving, family trips to Disneyland or something," Maret Hunter said.

Hunter was put up for adoption when she was 3-years-old. She knew she had a family somewhere, but didn't meet them until Wednesday afternoon.

"It just feels like home now. It's like getting one of my other sisters off the plane. We love you anyway, no matter what. We are always sisters, I'm the oldest of nine and I make the rules," said Tolen.

Tolen's daughter found Hunter on Facebook. All nine sisters have been using the social network site to get to know each other, but Facebook can't beat face-to-face.

"We'll probably deflate, and talk, and talk and talk. Like a big slumber party," Winscott said.

The family was almost reunited in 1982, but Hunter had moved just weeks before her sisters came looking for her.

"It was heartbreaking that we were that close and missed each other. I can't explain it," Winscott said.

But now they're back together, with a lot of catching up to do.

"I left my ticket wide open, so I could spend as much time here as possible. I have another sister in Springfield and Joplin, so I plan on being here for a little bit," Hunter said.

The sisters tell KCTV5 News they were split up when the family fell on difficult times. More of the siblings plan to arrive in Kansas City over the weekend for the reunion.
