Pedestrian killed in overnight hit-and-run

GRANDVIEW, MO (KCTV) -

Kansas City Police are looking for a driver who struck and killed a pedestrian in a hit-and-run accident on Interstate 49 early Saturday morning

Authorities said the person was hit on the off-ramp from southbound I-49 to 155th Street just before 3 a.m.

Sgt. Marissa Barnes with the Kansas City Police Department released a crash report that said their investigation indicates the pedestrian was walking in the roadway on the off-ramp when they were struck. The area is unlit and very dark, the report went on to say.

The victim, later identified as 48-year-old Robert L. Hays of Grandview, MO, was found dead at the scene.

Police said the driver fled the scene.

There are no details on the type of vehicle involved in the accident.

This is the 43 fatal crash for 2013 compared to 46 at the same time last year.
