CAMDEN COUNTY, MO (KCTV) -
A Kansas City attorney accused of killing her father through a forgery now faces a second murder charge.
Prosecutors in Camden County have now charged Susan Van Note with the murder of her father's fiancee, Sharon Dickson.
Dickson and William Van Note were attacked in their Lake of the Ozarks home in October of 2010. Dickson died at the scene and William Van Note died four days later at a Columbia, MO, hospital.
His daughter, Susan Van Note, showed doctors a power of attorney for healthcare document that ended treatment for him. Prosecutors say it was forged.
According to court documents, Susan Van Note's live-in mother, Barbara Van Note, claimed Susan Van Note was at their Lee's Summit, MO, home the night of the murder along with her son. Subpoenaed telephone records, though, showed that two calls placed from Susan Van Note's cell phone the night of the murders were transmitted through a cell tower located about six miles from the Lake of the Ozarks home.
According to court documents, Susan Van Note admitted to police that she had a volatile relationship with her father. She said he was physically and emotionally abusive to her, often threatening to disinherit her.
"When asked if she ever thought about killing her father, Susan stated ‘I did as a teenager. I was going to run him over with his boat… and then he stopped water skiing,'" the documents said.
According to court documents, financial records found William Van Note's 2009 end of year net worth at just over $7 million.
Tuesday prosecutors also dropped charges against a Shawnee, KS, couple. Stacey and Desre Dory had been accused of aiding the forgery.
"We are grateful the truth has come out, and we are moving on with our lives," said Stacey Dory over the phone.
Court documents said the Dorys later admitted they did not see William Van Note sign the power of attorney for healthcare document, even though they were listed as witnesses on it.
Van Note has been out after posting a $1 million cash bond. Her next court appearance is a formal arraignment on October 11.
