New Goodwill also offering job resources

Posted: Updated:
LIBERTY, MO (KCTV) -

There's a new place in Liberty, MO, helping local people of all abilities find jobs. The new Goodwill opens Wednesday.

The Goodwill located near the intersection of Highway 291 and Interstate 35 is 9,000 square feet of retail space. There is a ton of gently-used clothing and accessories to sift through that can help outfit anyone for success.

"Anywhere from T-shirts all the way up to business suits," said Gloria Fiddler, the vice president of retail.

There are 26,000 items to choose from and 3,000 different products are put on the floor daily.

The Goodwill offers clothing and accessory options that will help people land a job, and runs through the work of others. The store itself puts 23 people to work in Liberty, but the Goodworks Center, a new concept with Goodwill, helps many more job seekers find work. In it, job seekers come to access resources for the job hunt.

"A lot of folks don't have the opportunity to have a computer at home or maybe they don't know how to build a resume. People who are in need of employment will be able to have this resource," Fiddler said. "That's huge to help people gain employment in the metro."

The Goodworks Center will eventually be fitted with computers, internet, phones and fax machine access. There will also be job listings posted, resume counseling and assistance finding transportation and clothing. It continues the mission of Goodwill of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas to strengthen individuals, families and communities in need through the power of work.

The new Liberty store is the only Goodwill in the metro with it. Since 2012, Goodwill of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas helped more than 3,000 people find a job.

As many know, a first impression can make or break a job interview. KCTV5's Erika Tallan went to the store with a budget of $15 and said she found an entire outfit for less than that. She left with a dress from Express, a belt, shoes and a knock-off Gucci bag all for under $14.
