LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A video that depicts a girl's failed attempt at twerking, ending in her set ablaze, went viral after it was posted on YouTube. It turns out it was all a prank orchestrated by Las Vegas' own Jimmy Kimmel.

The video was posted on Sept. 3 by a girl named Caitlin Heller just days after musician Miley Cyrus danced her way to international headlines with a risque performance during the MTV Video Music Awards, which included twerking and a foam finger.

In the description, Heller said she was trying to make a sexy video for her boyfriend. However, her plans go awry and end with her pants on fire.

Almost instantly, the video went viral, garnering more than 9 million views in less than a week. Hundreds of TV news stations also showcased the clip.

In the comments section of the clip page, some people called in to question the validity of the video, and they were right.

Late-night talk show host, and Las Vegas native, Jimmy Kimmel revealed during his show Monday night that the epic fail was quite possibly the most epic internet prank ever.

"We shot the video two months ago, and we posted it on YouTube," Kimmel said. "We didn't send it to any TV stations. I didn't tweet it. We didn't put it on any news websites. We just put it on YouTube and let the magic happen."

Kimmel revealed that Heller is actually stunt woman Daphne Avalon, who was sworn to secrecy.

"My ex-boyfriend from high school sent me this worried Facebook message like, 'Oh! My gosh! I got this video. It looks like you. Are you OK?'" Avalon said during an interview with Kimmel.

In the unedited version of the now-famous clip, a heroic Kimmel enters the room with a fire extinguisher and puts out the flames.
