DE SOTO, KS (KCTV) -

An De Soto man suffered serious burns after a chemical explosion in his bathroom Monday morning.

Firefighters from the Northwest Consolidated Fire District responded to a small explosion about 10:30 a.m. in the 8300 block of Ottawa Street.

Fire Operations Chief Mark Billquist said a man was in his bathroom when a cleaning brush and chemicals next to his toilet somehow combusted.

Investigators are trying to determine what chemicals may have caused the explosion. Billquist said the chemicals were normal household cleaning products.

The man suffered some second-degree burns to his hip.

Authorities said there was no gas leak, and the man did not smoke. A hazardous materials investigator will help in determining the cause of the explosion.
