Harvest Ball Society fashion show to benefit several local charities

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Hundreds are expected to light up Bartle Hall to get a sneak peak at fall fashion trends and to give back this weekend.

But it is not just any fashion show - this one benefits several local charities.

Harvest Ball Society has given more than $6.5 million to more than 60 charities in their 26-year history.

This year, 50 percent of the proceeds from the event will go to 27 charities.

Professional models will strut the season's hottest trends at one of the Harvest Ball's biggest fundraisers of the year, the Adorn Style Show and Brunch.

"Get your girlfriends, your mom, your daughter ... It is a great lunch shopping. Twelve boutiques and models, it is just a blast," chairwoman Christi Weaver said. "We are all about providing charity funds, specifically in the Northland."

And it is for a good cause. While some of the proceeds cover the cost to put on the event, the rest is donated. Part of the proceeds will go from one runway to another.

Angel Flight Central, one of the 27 charities benefiting from the show, is a nonprofit based in Kansas City and helps people in need receive life-saving medical treatment and surgeries all over the country.

"It could be people who were just diagnosed and their local physician said, 'There is nothing we can do for you here. We need to get you to a different facility someplace else where there is only one doctor treating these types of patients,'" said Brendan Sneegas with Angel Flight Central.

The flights don't cost the patient a penny. Volunteer pilots offer their time, planes and fuel to transport them.

"It is unbelievable the amount of calls we receive each day," Sneegas said.

Last year, Angel Flight Central provided 280 flights to patients in the metro. Nearly half of those were funded on donations from Harvest Ball Society.

So far, the fashion show has attracted 600 people.

If you want to attend the show, there are still tickets available. Regular seats are $70, but that gets you exclusive shopping, a professional fashion show and a catered lunch.
