Chase follows after semi driver caught driving erratically

Posted: Updated:

Police say a semi driver who they caught driving erratically led them on a chase lasting just under 30 minutes Friday morning.

The chase started shortly after 11:30 a.m. when police said they got a call from a trucking company telling them that they suspected one of their drivers was under the influence of drugs. Officers then spotted the semi driver driving erratically near 21st and Harrison streets. Police said the officers tried to pull the driver over, but he refused and continued to drive in an erratic fashion.

At one point, police said the driver began driving in circles in the downtown area near Sixth and Cherry streets and Ninth Street and Grand Boulevard.

Police said their officers threw stop sticks down and, after the semi ran over them, both front tires eventually went flat.

The chase ended about 11:55 a.m. near Gardner Avenue and North Chouteau Trafficway.

Police said the driver could face multiple charges.

The chase never reached high speeds.
