Stolen barbecue rig recovered in Coffee County

Posted: Updated:

In the south, barbecue is sacred, so some people are breathing a sigh of relief after a stolen barbecue smoker turned up Friday morning in Coffee County.

"We got a tweet from someone asking if we were setting up in Franklin, and I knew nobody should have had our rig in Franklin," said Carey Bringle, owner of The Peg Leg Porker.

Someone stole the barbecue cooker from Bringle's driveway Thursday afternoon.

It took 10 years for the well-known pitmaster and his friends to build the rig from scratch.

"It's a love for us," said Bringle. "This is something that we've worked a long time on, and it was sort of the heart and soul of our barbecue."

The rig was located about 10:30 a.m. Friday in Coffee County, said Sheriff Steve Graves, who added that arrests in the caper are pending.

Bringle values the rig at about $30,000, and officials said Friday afternoon it was en route back to Nashville.
