No charges for Hamilton homeowner who killed intruder

A grand jury reported that no criminal charges would be brought against a Hamilton man that shot and killed a man that broke into his home last week.

Investigators determined that Robert Shoemaker, 38, was justified in the shooting of Chad Gabbard, 44 the evening of August 22.

The Hamilton Police Department reported that Chad Gabbard, 44, entered the home of a Robert D. Shoemaker, 38, and engaged in an altercation.

Shoemaker shot and killed Gabbard after Gabbard managed to stab him three times with a sharp object.

When police arrived to the scene, they found Gabbard dead and Shoemaker suffering from stab wounds.

Shoemaker was transported to hospital and was treated for his injuries.
