PHOENIX (CBS5) -
The annual Little League World Series is being played in Williamsport, PA.
The kids' games can be seen on ESPN, which is paying the nonprofit Little League Baseball, Inc. $4 million to broadcast 32 games this year.
According to tax filings, Little League Baseball Inc. earned $2.8 million in profit last year.
So it begs the question: Don't the players deserve a cut?
Maybe not a paycheck, but some have suggested the money be put toward a college scholarship.
Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports believes the players deserve something:
"The players deserve something from this booming, expansive event, even if it is just a few grand that go directly into a college scholarship fund or some kind of trust (if they don't go to college) that can't be accessed until age 18 or 21. A similar system could be worked out for international players based on their own cultural norms."
