Body of missing Apple worker found in pond after crash

Posted: Updated:

The body of a missing 20-year-old man has been found inside a vehicle submerged in a pond, family friends tell KCTV5.

Robert Walter apparently was driving when he missed a curve and his vehicle landed in a pond along Highway H and 100th Street in Clay County. Clay County authorities say someone walking in the area spotted the car in the water about 2 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies say no foul play is suspected.

The Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the official identification, but family members and friends say the body was that of Walter who went missing earlier this month. Walter worked at the Apple store in Leawood.

He was last seen in downtown Kansas City.

This was posted on a Facebook page created to help bring Walter home:

"It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that Robert's body has been found. It appears as though he had been in a horrible car accident and was found submerged in a pond. We appreciate all of your efforts, support and prayers. We will keep you up to date with information regarding service arrangements. We ask at this time that you allow the family time to grieve and find understanding in this tragedy.

"Robert was an adventurous spirit and loved by many. He is gone, but never forgotten. His legacy will live on through his friends and the work they will do for his favorite cause; gay rights."
