Just hours after a woman was kidnapped and forced to withdraw money at gunpoint, the same man confronted a second woman who was finishing up her run.
The woman described to KCTV5's Amy Anderson the harrowing ordeal and how she believes the man's intentions were more than just to rob her.
"It's obviously very fresh, and I'm just worried about anyone walking on the street right now," the woman said. "Just be aware and tell your wives and daughters."
Because the gunman has not been caught, KCTV5 is protecting the woman's identity. Law enforcement agencies in the Kansas City area are actively seeking the suspect and an additional suspect.
The two Hispanic men are wanted in connection with the kidnapping of the first woman and her young child along with attempted kidnappings of two other women, including the woman who was running during the noon hour Friday.
The first incident occurred about 10 a.m. when a woman was at Menorah Medical Center's complex with her young daughter. The first suspect forced her at gunpoint to drive to a Leawood bank, where she removed money. The gunman released her back at the hospital complex.
The woman who spoke with KCTV5 on Monday said she was finishing up a run in the road of Roe Avenue and Tomahawk Creek Parkway. That's when the man in his 20s approached her. She immediately felt uneasy.
"At first I thought he was going to ask me a question, and I remember even taking a step back because something was off," she said. "He was talking to me really softly, really quietly."
The man ordered the woman to turn around and walk away from him.
"He pulled the gun out of his pocket, and showed me the whole thing," she described.
She quickly weighed her options. She had just a smartphone, and she knew his intentions were more than just to rob her. She knew it was daylight and others were around. So she ran and began to scream her head off.
"He was going to do more than rob me. I just started screaming, 'Help! Help!'" she recalled. "I got quite a few cars' attention."
A good Samaritan pulled over. The woman leaped into his car and they called 911. All this occurred while the suspect was standing there with his handgun.
While the Leawood woman was talking to police, authorities said the two suspects accosted a woman at gunpoint and tried to kidnap her from a parking lot outside shops at 105th Street and Metcalf Avenue. Another person in the area managed to help save that woman and snap a cell phone picture of the getaway vehicle. The suspects got away with the woman's purse.
The runner says the crime spree suspects are a menace and need to be behind bars.
