Posted: Updated:

Authorities say a second person has died from their injuries after a hit-and-run crash on the city's east side.

The wreck happened just after 3 a.m. Sunday at East 31st Street and Euclid Avenue.

Emergency crews pronounced the first victim, 36-year-old Elvia P. Walters, of Lee's Summit, dead at the scene.  Walters was a passenger in the vehicle.

The driver, 39-year-old Thomas G. Salistean, of Omaha, died later at the hospital.  Another passenger suffered serious injuries in the wreck.

Police said a white Chevrolet Cruze had been heading north and collided with a black Ford Mustang, which had been eastbound.

The driver of the Chevrolet fled the scene on foot immediately following the collision.

The suspect is not in custody, but detectives are following up on leads.

Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
