A jury found a handyman guilty of raping a senior citizen in Johnson County.

Jimmy D. Crocker was convicted of rape and aggravated burglary Tuesday afternoon in a Johnson County courtroom.

On Friday, Sept. 20, he was sentenced to more than 25 years in prison.

This stems from a July 26, 2012, case in Fairway, KS, when he attacked and raped a then 66-year-old woman.

It happened in the 5400 block of Chadwick Road.

Crocker had done some handy work for the woman before, but they had no relationship beyond that. On the day he attacked her, he showed up at the house unannounced.

The woman, who lived alone, did not let him in. But he did get into the house.

Police responded to the house that morning and she was taken to the hospital. Crocker was arrested the next day.

Neighbors who lived next to Crocker found the news of his conviction disturbing.

"It's creepy. He was always helping in the yard, helping neighbors. But to hear that he did something like that, it's shocking," Justus Bearden said.
