UNION, Mo. (AP) -

A 23-year-old southeast Missouri man suspected in a road rage incident has killed himself after being stopped by a Franklin County deputy.

The Washington Missourian reports deputies were called around 9:20 p.m. Friday by a man who said he was being followed by someone who had previously assaulted him. The unidentified caller said the man was trying to force him off the road.

Deputies who found the vehicles near Robertsville saw one driver tailgating the other car and swerving in an attempt to pull up next to it.

The pursuing driver immediately pulled over when deputies activated sirens and fatally shot himself. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
