A resident in the Indian Orchard section of the city was found stabbed three times inside his home, shortly after 1 a.m. on Oak Street.
Police told CBS 3 that a man was stabbed twice in the back and once in the neck.
He was taken to Baystate Medical Center, where he is in critical but stable condition as of Saturday afternoon.
Police said an artery in the heart was nicked during the stabbing.
The man, who was found by a neighbor, would not answer any of the questions asked by officers on the scene.
However, police believe it could have been a domestic dispute.
The incident remains under investigation.
