Pond being drained in search for missing Hellen Cook

WARSAW, MO (KCTV) -

A west-central Missouri pond is being drained as the search continues for an elderly woman with Alzheimer's who has been missing for more than three weeks.

Hellen Cook, 72, was last seen July 13. Her family and local law enforcement agencies have been searching for her ever since.

On Saturday, search groups drained a pond near Warsaw, not far from where Cook was last seen. Earlier in the day, a dog team also searched a wooded area not far from the pond.

Cook has difficulty communicating and has been without her medication.

Last week searchers found shoes, a scarf and a hat in the same area near the pond. Her family believes those items belong to her.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said the pond was already scheduled to be drained this year.

The pond is about 14-feet deep, and it is expected to take about a week to drain it.
