ST. JOSEPH, MO (KCTV) -

Buchanan County prosecutors have charged a St. Joseph father after his 8-month-old son drowned in a bathtub in early August.

Shawn D. Winkfield-Maynard, 24, of St. Joseph, was charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter, a Class C felony, in the death of Kion Raheemadien Winkfield-Maynard.

Officers said they were called to a home near North Fifth and Louis streets just before 5 p.m. on Aug. 2 after Kion was found unresponsive in a bathtub.

Police said there were two adults in the home at the time.

Prosecutors said they believe the small child was left in the bathtub unattended for an extensive period of time.
