The saga continues in the murder investigation for Bristol native and former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez.
For the second straight week, the case has brought Massachusetts authorities back to Connecticut as crews search Pine Lake for a possible weapon connected to the shooting death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd.
Channel 3 Eyewitness News was the first to report that crews had arrived at the Bristol lake after receiving a tip from someone saying that the murder weapon used to kill Lloyd, a .45-caliber Glock, may have been tossed into the lake.
Bristol officials said it's still unclear whether the tip is true, which is why crews entered the lake in hopes of finding it.
The gun was never recovered after the killing, and nothing was located in the lake Monday.
Hernandez has been charged with his friend's murder and has entered a not guilty plea. Two of his associates, Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz, both with Connecticut connections, face lesser charges related to the case.
Officials said crews spent all day at the lake, and could possibly search the body of water Tuesday and beyond.
Massachusetts and local police stood watch as divers in scuba gear using special technology combed a certain section using rope as their guide.
"If he did it, I hope they find the gun and whatever they're looking for here," said Joann Sands, whose grandson went to school where Hernandez's mom works.
A crowd of people formed to watch the investigation by police.
"I think it's a shame. He made such a career for himself and then to end up this way," Sands said. "It's just not right."
The home of Hernandez's uncle on Lake Avenue was searched at least three times by investigators. Wallace and Ortiz both lived at the Lake Avenue home at one point.
The lake is less than 2 and a half miles from the home of Hernandez's uncle on Lake Avenue.
